Welding Apprentice Opportunity
Location: Rugby, Warwickshire
Wage: £16,536 per annum
Hours: Monday – Thursday: 8.00am – 5.00pm (½ hour lunch break)
Friday: 8.00am – 2.30pm (½ hour lunch break)
Contract: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Start Date: Monday 25 August 2025
Duration: 1 year 6 months

About the Role
Sirius Aerospace Manufacturing (SAM) is offering an exciting opportunity for an individual to begin their career in the engineering and manufacturing industry. The company is seeking an enthusiastic Welding Apprentice to join their growing team based in Rugby, Warwickshire.
The successful candidate will receive hands-on training while working on a variety of welded components and will be enrolled on the Level 2 Welding Apprenticeship through Warwickshire College Group.
Job requirements
Key Responsibilities
The Welding Apprentice will gain experience and skills through practical work, including:
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Marking out parts for fabrication
Performing MIG and TIG welding
Dressing welds to meet customer specifications
Liaising with the Quality Inspector for first-off inspections and sign-offs
Working with sheet metal materials
Supporting the team across other manufacturing processes
Working independently and as part of a team
Adhering to health and safety procedures
Additional Training & Exposure:
Apprentices will also receive awareness training in:
Brake press operation
Robot welding
Drilling and tapping
Other general shopfloor duties
Note: Candidates must already have the right to live and work in the UK. Previous experience in engineering, manufacturing, or an industrial setting is beneficial but not essential. Full training will be provided.

Training & Development
This apprenticeship includes both on-the-job learning and time spent studying with Warwickshire College. Apprentices will work towards achieving:
Level 2 Technical Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering
Welder Qualification (ISO 9606-1:2017) for the chosen weld type and position
End Point Assessment (EPA)
Apprentices will develop professional knowledge and skills in:
Preparing and using welding materials and equipment
Performing various welding techniques (TIG, MIG, PAW, MMA, etc.)
Inspecting welds for quality and accuracy
Reading and using technical documentation
Following environmental, safety, and equality procedures
Communicating effectively with colleagues and supervisors
Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics, English, and Science (Grades 3/D or above)
Key Skills and Attributes:
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Good attention to detail
Organisational and problem-solving abilities
Basic numerical and analytical capability
Physically fit and willing to work on the shopfloor
Initiative and a proactive attitude
